Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure (AMI)

Overview

There is a need to promote agricultural marketing infrastructure projects for reducing intermediation and the post-harvest losses by integrating supply chain which ensures better remuneration to the farmers and supply of better quality products to both consumers and processing industries. It is estimated that there is an investment requirement of Rs. 56,000 crores for different marketing infrastructure and value chain development during the XII plan period. In this connection Department of Agriculture and Cooperation (DAC), Govt. of India has now introduced Agri Marketing Infrastructure (AMI) scheme by merging erstwhile Grameen Bhandaran Yojana (GBY) and Scheme for Development/ Strengthening of Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure, Grading and Standardization (AMIGS).
